The Buffalo Bills are uncertain of their starting quarterback situation headed into their game this coming Sunday at the Indianapolis Colts.

Starter Josh Allen left Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans late in the third quarter with an elbow injury. He was replaced by Nathan Peterman, who threw a go-ahead touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but then an interception that was returned for a touchdown with under two minutes left.

Head coach Sean McDermott called Allen “week-to-week” at his weekly Monday press conference and left all options on the table for next week, including Allen, Peterman, or newly signed veteran Derek Anderson.

“It’s something we’re working through right now. [We're> working through that with our offensive staff,” McDermott said.

Late Monday night, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that Allen had injured the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow:

If Allen can’t go, and the team is hesitant to put Peterman in, it will be a challenge to get Anderson up-to-speed this quickly on the offense. He was just signed to the active roster a week ago.

“He’s a work in progress just having joined us last week,” McDermott said of Anderson’s knowledge of the offense. “He’s working hard along with our quarterbacks coach and Brian [Daboll> to get up to speed.”

Daboll echoed those sentiments when he met with the media a few minutes later.

“He’s picking it up,” the offensive coordinator said. “To come off the street and come in, he’s upstairs right now, he’s upstairs all the time. I don’t think you can put the whole thing on him. He’s played a long time, so concepts are concepts. It’s understanding the language. He’s grinding it out.”

McDermott gave an update on other injures, as well, terming guard Vlad Ducasse (knee) and defensive end Trent Murphy (undisclosed) day-to-day, while saying running back Taiwan Jones (undisclosed) is week-to-week.
