It was not the start fans in Rochester and Buffalo were hoping for with the Rochester Americans in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Amerks drop Game 1 of their Calder Cup Playoff series with the Syracuse Crunch on Friday by a score of 6-2. Linus Ullmark struggled in his first career playoff game, letting in five goals on 33 shots. The first round of the AHL Playoffs is a best of five series.

There was a lot of scoring right out of the gate with two goals in the first five minutes of the game, and four goals in the first period. Zach Redmond and Kyle Criscuolo found the back of the net for the Amerks in the first with C.J. Smith making a great pass to springboard Criscuolo on his goal.

The Crunch wouldn't look back, however, scoring the next four goals to seal the deal. Gabriel Dumont was the game's first star with a hat-trick and an assist. Former Sabres defenseman Jamie McBain had a goal and two assists.

With the first round of the playoffs being a best of five series, the loss is more crucial for the Amerks. Game 2 is Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Syracuse before the series shifts to Rochester for Game 3 and Game 4 (if necessary). Game 3 will take place on Wednesday night, while Game 4 is scheduled to play out on Friday.
