Beane: We're focused on McCoy being at training camp

Bills general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott spoke with the media before the start of training camp

After reporting to St. John Fisher College in Pittsford on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills are ready to kick off training camp with the first of 13 practices on Thursday.

This year, the Bills will look to build off a season in which the team broke the 18-year long playoff drought by just squeaking in as a 9-7 wild card team. However, the Bills will certainly have many questions surrounding them, especially on offense and at quarterback.

In the offseason, the Bills traded away quarterback Tyrod Taylor to the Cleveland Browns, signed A.J. McCarron to a two-year deal, and drafted Josh Allen with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The team also has Nathan Peterman still in the mix as the 2017 fifth round pick will be the third horse in the race for the starting quarterback job.

Perhaps the other big question surrounding the offense is with LeSean McCoy and whether or not he will be available for the Bills come Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. McCoy is currently under investigation in a targeted home invasion case that left an ex-girlfriend beaten and bloodied in his Georgia home.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott both spoke with the media before the start of training camp on Thursday.

Here is some of what they had to say:

Beane on the latest with the LeSean McCoy situation:

"We're not thinking hypotheticals. LeSean is here, we're focused on him being here."

"We feel comfortable that LeSean is going to be here and ready to roll. We don't see that changing."

McDermott on McCoy:

"When things come up, our leadership team comes together and we talk. We've done our due diligence on speaking with who we need to speak with."

McDermott on if there is a timetable on when he'd like to have a starter in place at quarterback:

"I don't think there's a perfect way out there, perfect set date & time to name a starter. I understand the quarterback position is different in certain ways... It'd be nice to get a pretty good feel early on."

Beane on the health of Zay Jones:

"He can do certain things. He can't practice until we take him off [the NFL], it's like PUP... He's chomping at the bit."

McDermott on if Zay Jones has fallen behind due to injury:

"I think he's behind. That's a tough deal. That said Zay is a positive young man, with tremendous mental toughness."
