Bills hold on to beat the Lions, 14-13

Robert Foster records third 100-yard game of the season in the Bills win

December 16, 2018 - 1:34 pm

Over the past two games, the Buffalo Bills had close leads evaporate and see the team lose close games. Against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the Bills finally held on for a 14-13 win at New Era Field to improve to 5-9 on the season.

Josh Allen and the Bills came back in a game that saw four lead changes, and several injuries that pressed the Bills and tested their depth. However, the Bills prevailed after Allen connected with Robert Foster on a 42-yard touchdown pass to give the Bills the lead for good in the fourth quarter. The defense held its ground after losing leads late in their past two games, aided by a missed field goal by Detroit kicker Matt Prater that would have given the Lions a lead late in the fourth quarter.

Allen and the offense would take care of the rest, icing the game with a Josh Allen sneak on 4th-and-1 with under two minutes left in the game.

Allen was 13-of-26 for 204 yards and a touchdown in the air on Sunday, and adding a rushing touchdown and 16 yards on nine carries. Keith Ford led the way for Bills running backs with 14 carries and 46 yards after Marcus Murphy left the game in the first half due to injury and did not return. Murphy had 11 carries for 35 yards.

Robert Foster recorded his third 100-yard receiving game of the season, reeling in four catches for 108 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

Matt Stafford was solid for the Lions, going 22-of-29 for 208 yards and a touchdown. Most of his targets on the day went to Lions wideout Kenny Golladay, who had a career-best 146 yards on seven receptions. The Lions' running game was led by Theo Riddick, who had eight carries for 47 yards.

The Bills only have two games remaining in the 2018 season, with the next contest coming next Sunday in Foxboro, Massachusetts against the New England Patriots. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and can be heard on WGR Sports Radio 550 with John Murphy, Mark Kelso and Sal Capaccio on the call.
