The Buffalo Bills have announced on Friday that they've signed quarterback Matt Barkley to a two-year contract extension through the 2020 season.

Barkley played well in his only start as a Bill this season, going 15-of-25 for 232 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-10 blowout win against the New York Jets in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Barkley was signed in the midst of injuries to rookie quarterback Josh Allen and then Derek Anderson. Once the Bills got Allen back to full strength, the team released second-year quarterback Nathan Peterman.

Barkley could be in line to be the backup quarterback going forward. He's only 28-years-old and has put up big stats when coming on in relief in Buffalo, and before that Chicago.

No further details were released about the contract.
