ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported on Tuesday afternoon that the Buffalo Bills were planning on cutting ties with veteran running back Chris Ivory. On Wednesday, the Bills made Ivory's release official, making him him an unrestricted free agent.

Ivory appeared in 13 games for the Bills last year, his only season in Buffalo, and rushed for 385 yards and one touchdown. The 31-year-old also caught 13 passes for 205 yards.

Last year, Ivory signed a two-year deal with the Bills and served as the backup to Lesean McCoy, a role that will presumably be filled by the recently-signed Frank Gore this season.

Ivory is a nine-year veteran and has played for four teams in his career, including the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars.
