The Bills will be without two of their reserves on defense when they face the Jets in the regular season opener Sunday.

Head coach Sean McDermott officially ruled out linebacker Tanner Vallejo (knee) and defensive tackle Jerel Worthy (concussion) for the game in Orchard Park. Vallejo has been dealing with his injury for a couple weeks.  He has primarily been backing up Ramon Humber at WLB, but also Lorenzo Alexander at SLB during the preseason.  Worthy knocked heads with his own teammate in the team’s preseason finale against the Detroit Lions eight days ago.  Along wih Adolphus Washington, he's a main backup to DTs Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams.

Dareus, who was limited with a hip injury earlier in the week, will start. McDermott said the defensive tackle “looks good,” adding “he had a good day of practice yesterday.”

McDermott also confirmed that EJ Gaines will start at right cornerback opposite rookie Tre’Davious White. Gaines was in a battle for the position with Shareece Wright.

The final, official injury report for both teams will be made available Friday afternoon.
