Bills torched by Ravens in season opener, 47-3

Nathan Peterman was pulled during the third quarter, finishing 5-of-18 for 24 yards and two interceptions

The Buffalo Bills could not have opened the season on a worse note.

The Bills were blown out by the Baltimore Ravens, 47-3 in a rain-soaked season opener on Sunday afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

Nathan Peterman started the game, but had another disastrous outing as a starter, going 5-of-18 for only 24 yards and two interceptions before being benched for rookie Josh Allen in the third quarter. In Peterman's three career starts, he has yet to finish out a game.

Right out of the gate, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco and the Baltimore offense dominated the Bills in the air, throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on 25-of-34 attempts. Flacco played into the third quarter before being replaced by rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson, who went 1-of-4 for 24 yards.

On the ground, the Ravens put up 117 total yards and three touchdowns from three different running backs.

The Bills did force a turnover in the loss, thanks to the efforts of rookie Tremaine Edmunds. The 20-year-old linebacker was able to strip running back Alex Collins of the ball early in the second quarter, which gave the Bills a chance to put some points on the board. After a quick three-and-out by the Buffalo offense, Stephen Hauschka missed a 52-yard field goal attempt in the rain.

Buffalo's offense didn't get a first down until the first play in the third quarter when LeSean McCoy gained 12 yards on a run play. However, the drive ended with a botched punt by rookie Corey Bojorquez that gave the Ravens the ball at the Buffalo 14-yard line.

Peterman's day ended on the next drive when he threw his second interception to Ravens cornerback, Brandon Carr.

Allen came in and marched the team to its first points on his second drive with a 35-yard field goal by Hauschka. Allen ended his day by throwing 6-of-15 for 74 yards, but he was sacked three times for a loss of 16 yards.

Up next for the Bills is the home opener next Sunday when the Los Angeles Chargers come to New Era Field. Kickoff next week is set for 1 p.m. with John Murphy, Mark Kelso and Sal Capaccio on the call on WGR.
