Pittsford, NY (WGR) - Training camp for the Buffalo Bills ended exactly the way it started: on a hot, sunny day on the grass field at St. John Fisher College, and no closer to knowing who will be the starting quarterback Week 1 at the Baltimore Ravens.

All of the questions we had about the position back on July 26, when the team opened camp, still remain exactly 20 days later.

The only thing that’s changed is that Josh Allen ended camp by primarily working with the second-team offense. He started with the third-team. Allen, once again, was the second quarterback in on Wednesday, the last practice before the team's preseason game against the Browns, which is a good indication that he will see the field with that group Friday night in Cleveland.

Nathan Peterman and A.J. McCarron, once again, rotated with the first- and third-team offenses. Wednesday, it was McCarron’s turn with the first unit.

There were a few other interesting personnel developments Wednesday:

  • Wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin only took one rep to begin practice in 11-on-11, then did not see the field the rest of the day. He stood on the sidelines with his helmet off watching.
  • Linebacker Keenan Robinson saw time with the first unit, rotating in on the weakside with Matt Milano.
  • Rookie cornerback Taron Johnson also rotated first team reps at the nickel spot with Philip Gaines.
  • Several players sat out due to ailments, including defensive end Trent Murphy (groin), defensive tackle Marquavius Lewis (ankle), and wide receiver Brandon Reilly (ribs). Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (undisclosed) wore a red non-contact jersey.

The team will head back to Orchard Park Wednesday afternoon, then fly to Cleveland on Thursday and play the Browns Friday night. They’ll be off on Saturday and back on the practice field Sunday at 2:15 p.m. All practices are now back at One Bills Drive and closed to the public.
