Here are some notes and observations from the Bills Tuesday morning practice at St. John Fisher:

— Participation update:

  • DE Ryan Davis and WR Jeremy Butler both sat out with concussions.
  • CB Kevon Seymour did not practice and is listed as day-to-day with foot soreness.

— The big story of the day was the addition of veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin and the curiosity of how he will be used. Boldin lined up with the first and second team offense at different times, usually in the slot. When he was with the starters he took the place for rookie Zay Jones. Boldin seemed to get a regular dose of reps and didn’t look at all like he hadn’t been in camp to this point.

— The other big story was linebacker Reggie Ragland, who is now sometimes working with the THIRD team offense at middle linebacker. Gerald Hodges, who had been playing some MLB in passing situations for Ragland, was lining up there in base situations, as well.

— QB Tyrod Taylor backed up his excellent Monday with another solid practice, spreading the ball around to different players and using all parts of the field.

— Rookie Nathan Peterman got a few reps as the No. 2 QB in place of TJ Yates. But it was mostly Yates who took those snaps.

— Rod Streater had a terrific catch down the sidelines on a deep ball. He extended and caught the ball just before it touched the ground as he was falling forward. He is pushing for not only a roster spot, but reps in the top-4 wideouts.

— The situational period early in practice was with the special teams. The units worked on onside kicks and recoveries of them, as well as pooch kicks and handling them. They also worked on substitutions and getting players on and off the field quickly.

— Michael Ola, who had worked at offensive tackle earlier in camp, got some reps at guard.

— Head coach Sean McDermott said the starters will each get about a quarter of work Thursday night in the team’s preseason opener against the Vikings. Kickoff is at 7 PM on WGR.
