Isaiah Reese scored a career-high 31 points, but it came in a Canisius Golden Griffins 73-65 loss to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Wednesday night at Koessler Athletic Center.

The Bonnies used a pair of early first half scoring runs to help them hold the lead nearly the entire first half. A quick 7-0 scoring run broke a tie in the first. Courtney Stockard scored seven points off the bench during a 17-6 scoring run to help the Bona lead balloon to eleven points.

Reese helped the Golden Griffins cut into the margin throughout the final eight minutes of the half. Twelve of the sophomore’s 18 points came over the final eight minutes in the half. The guard capped off his scoring run with a three point basket with under a minute to go in the half.

Jermaine Crumpton added nine points for Canisius in the opening half, adding three rebounds over 18 minutes. Stockard and Jaylen Adams each led the Bonnies in scoring with seven points, respectively.

The Bonnies capitalized on ten Canisius turnovers in the first half and six steals. The Griffs enjoyed a slim 17-16 advantage in rebounding. Three separate Griffs had three rebounds, while LaDarien Griffin had eight for St. Bonaventure in the half, including three offensive rebounds.

The Bonnies largest lead of the game would come nearly halfway through the second when they opened up a twelve point lead, 55-43. Adams finished with 20 points, including the final four points, all free throws to preserve the win. The guard played 37 minutes in his second game of the season after suffering an ankle injury during exhibition play. He also added nine assists in the win.

Josh Ayeni fouled out late in the game, but not before seven made baskets, and twelve of his 15 points coming in the second half. The forward played just fourteen minutes but helped St. Bonaventure

Nearly half of Reese’s points came from behind the three point line, converting five of ten three point attempts. He also added six free throws in the total, to go with seven assists in a losing effort. Crumpton finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Canisius committed 19 turnovers in the loss, leading to 27 St. Bonaventure points. The Griffs forced thirteen turnovers with twelve points being generated.

The win was the 100th for the Bonnies against Canisius in the 166 all-time meetings between the Big-4 rivals.
