Jack Eichel scored twice for the Buffalo Sabres in the team's 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday afternoon at KeyBank Center.

Paul Stastny was called for slashing less than a minute into the game, giving Buffalo the first power play chance of the afternoon. The Sabres recorded three shots on goal, but failed to score. Stastny was again called for slashing just ahead of the six-minute mark in the first period to put the blue and gold back on the man advantage.

Eichel buried a chance on a one-timer from Rasmus Ristolainen to capitalize on the power play late in the first. It was Eichel's second goal in as many games, and came on Buffalo's ninth shot of the frame. Kyle Okposo was credited with an assist in addition to Ristolainen for his pass that helped set up the goal.

The Golden Knights recorded 11 shots in the opening period, but Carter Hutton stopped all 11. It is the third straight game that the netminder has started for the team.

Eichel doubled the lead after using a backhand deke to score his second goal of the game. Eichel's third goal of the year made the score 2-0 Buffalo, and was assisted by Sam Reinhart and Conor Sheary.

Vegas answered back to halve the deficit to 2-1 midway through the middle stanza. Eric Haula was credited with the goal after receiving a pass in the offensive zone by William Karlsson. The shot made it through traffic and into the net. Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault were credited with assists on the goal.

Buffalo wasted no time re-gaining their two goal lead. Off of a face-off Marco Scandella took a shot from the point that hit off of a Golden Knight defenseman and ended up in the net. Okposo and Patrik Berglund received the assists. The lead ballooned to three when Jason Pominville buried his first goal of the season. The tally came on just the third shot of the period by Buffalo. Evan Rodrigues and Zemgus Girgensons assisted on the goal that made it 4-1.

The Sabres' second penalty of the game came about six minutes into the final period when Tage Thompson was called for hooking.

Vegas failed the score on the power play, but Marchessault would score just a few minutes later to cut Buffalo's lead to 4-2 part way through the third period. The goal came from a shot in the slot, with Karlsson receiving the lone assist.

Buffalo was out-shot 12-2 by the Golden Knights in the third period. Hutton made 11 saves in the last period to finish with 35 overall.
