The Buffalo Sabres failed to create enough offense in a 2-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night at KeyBank Center. The Sabres managed to put up 34 shots on goal, but Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy had a pretty easy night, turning away all 34 shots faced.

Here's how all the action unfolded:

First Period:

15:50 - There is good jump from the Sabres to start the game. They are going to need it with the waves of offense that Tampa is going to bring shift after shift.

11:28 - Robin Lehner has held up well to start. He has not been tested too much, but has had to make five saves early. Buffalo is playing good team defense in front of their goaltender, which is something we haven't been able to say every night this season.

5:31 - Buffalo is good keeping up with the Lightning, going up and down the ice, and creating scoring chances. The line of Jack Eichel, Evander Kane, and Sam Reinhart are once again creating offense as a line. It is a good line, but the problem is the only time it seems like Sam is able to create any offense is when he is paired with Jack.

4:27 - Jordan Nolan takes the first penalty of the game for hooking. We'll see if Tampa's power play can get the better of Buffalo's special teams.

3:31 - LIGHTNING GOAL. An unfortunate bounce off the stick of Johan Larsson re-directs Mikhail Sergachev's shot from the point and allows the puck to get past Robin Lehner who was tracking it the other direction. An bad break for Buffalo who was playing the PK very well for the first minute. 1-0 TB.

End of Period

Goal Summary:

BUF: NONE
TB: 16:29 - Mikhail Sergachev (6) PPG (Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat)

Penalty Summary:

BUF: 15:33 - Jordan Nolan (2 min., hooking)
TB: NONE

Shots on Goal:

BUF - 9, TB - 8

Second Period:

18:02 - Steven Stamkos makes his presence felt for the first time tonight, and it is because he is called for a hooking minor. This would be a good opportunity for Buffalo to tie the game early in the middle frame.

16:28 - Buffalo is moving the puck very well and creating chances. I would like Matt Moulson to do a little better job of screening Andrei Vasilevskiy so that he doesn't see so many pucks clean.

9:48 - Shots are 7-3 in favor of Buffalo this period, they are dominating the play. But, how many times have we been here before where they are getting the chances, but not burying them. It would be nice if someone took over and willed the puck into the net with an effort play. Kane has tried and been close, but nothing yet to show for his effort

7:52 - LIGHTNING GOAL. How many times am I going to write the same thing? Buffalo has been the better team this period, but a bounce...off of Marco Scandella...gets past Robin Lehner and makes it a two-goal deficit. Steven Stamkos tied up the Buffalo defender and helps Dan Girardi get the goal. 2-0 TB.

1:37 - This period has shifted over time, with the Lightning now enjoying an 11-9 edge in shots. Since the halfway point of the period it has been 8-2 in favor of the visitors.

End of Period

Goal Summary:

BUF: NONE
TB: 12:08 - Dan Girardi (1) (Vladislav Nametnikov, Nikita Kucherov)

Penalty Summary:

BUF: NONE
TB: 1:58 - Steven Stamkos (2 min., hooking). 18:47 - Braydon Coburn (2 min., cross checking)

Shots on Goal:

BUF - 10 (20), TB - 10 (19)

Third Period:

20:00 - Good news for the team as Rasmus Ristolainen is out for the first shift of the period. He appeared to injure his arm after being driven into the Tampa net by Braydon Coburn late in the second. He went to the locker room clutching his arm after the collision.

12:45 - Buffalo is running out of time to generate some offense that will lead to the deficit being halved. They had a two minute power play to do something, but recorded one maybe two shots on goal. Another disappointing power play by the blue and gold.

8:59 - The Lightning can really close things out with a 5-on-3 power play for the next minute plus. Ristolainen joins Nathan Beaulieu in the box.

6:55 - Buffalo is able to kill of both minors, they still have a chance to win this game if they can score in the next few minutes.

3:29 - Lehner has been pulled in favor of the extra skater.
