The U.B. women's basketball team became a Cinderella story of the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. The Bulls kept it close with second-seed South Carolina for much of the game, but lost 79-63 in Albany, NY. Guard Cierra Dillard kept U.B. in the game, hitting shot after shot and ending up with a game high 29-points.

The Bulls got upset wins in the tournament over South Florida and Florida State. They had an incredible regular season going 27-5, but did lose in the MAC Championship to Central Michigan. Even with the loss in the conference championship, they earned an at-large bid and won two tournament games. It was also only the second time in NCAA history that both a men's and women's basketball team won their first tourment games in the same year.

This was the final year with the team for seniors Stephanie Reid, Liisa Ups, Katherine Ups, Mariah Suchan, and Cassie Oursler.
