Canada finishes the round robin in third place at the World Championship

Ryan O'Reilly has gone pointless in four straight games

(WGR 550) - Canada won its last two games heading into Thursday’s quarterfinal round. On Tuesday, Team Canada got by Germany 3-0 with Darcy Kuemper (ARZ) getting the shutout. Kuemper was only called on to make 12 saves.

In five games, Kuemper has a goals against of 1.99 and a save percentage of only .879.

It only took 20-seconds for Brayden Schenn (STL) to score the game-winning goal against Germany. He took a nice feed from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM), who also scored a goal. In seven games, Nugent-Hopkins has four goals and three assists for seven points.

Nugent-Hopkins teammate with the Oilers, Connor McDavid had two assists giving him five goals and eight assists for 13 points in seven games.

Tyson Jost (COL) had the other Team Canada goal.

Ryan O’Reilly played his fourth straight game without a point after scoring three goals and three points in his first three games. O’Reilly skated 17:53 against the Germans with three shots on goal.

Canada finished the round robin 5-1-1, which lands them in third place in Group B. The Canadians will face Russia in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Finland suffered an overtime loss to Germany and a regulation loss to Denmark, but stomped over both Canada and the United States to win Group B. Canada had the same record, but finsihed one point behind Finland and the United States because one of their victories, against Latvia came in overtime.
