Novak Djokovic added to his legacy with a dominant, mistake-free performance over Rafael Nadal to capture the 2019 Australian Open title in Melbourne, Australia.

The No. 1-ranked Djokovic soundly defeated second-ranked Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday to notch a record seventh win at the Australian Open, and a third consecutive Grand Slam title.

Djokovic’s victory breaks his tie with Roger Federer and Roy Emerson for most Australian Open men’s titles, and also breaks a tie with Pete Sampras for third most Grand Slam titles. His 15 Grand Slam titles only trail Federer (20) and Nadal (17) for the most in tennis history.

On the women's side of things, it was 21-year-old Naomi Osaka claiming her second consecutive Grand Slam title with a thrilling three-set win over Petra Kvitová on Saturday.

Osaka was playing a tight match with Kvitová in the women's final, and ended up coming away with the 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 win to claim her first victory at the Australian Open. Osaka was victorious in the final tennis major of the 2018 season at the U.S. Open in New York City.

The next tennis major comes at the French Open, starting on May 26 at the Roland Garros in Paris, France.
