The number of back-to-back NBA MVP winners from 2000-on will remain at five as Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo beat out Houston Rockets guard, and reigning MVP James Harden and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George for the top individual award Monday night.

Watch sports now on fuboTV.

Antetokounmpo is now the second player in Bucks history to win most valuable player joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The Bucks finished with the league's best record in the 2018-19 regular season, going 60-22. In the playoffs, Milwaukee made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final before losing in six games to the eventual champion, Toronto Raptors. On the year, Antetokounmpo led the way averaging 27.7 points per-game, 12.5 rebounds per-game, and 5.9 assists per-game.

Both Harden and George were also strong candidates for MVP. Harden averaged a league-high 36.1 points per-game, shooting almost 37% from behind the arc (36.8%). George was impressive on both ends of the floor as he was also nominated for Defensive Player of the Year.

Antetokounmpo is the first player born outside the United States to win the award since Dirk Nowitzki in 2008. Overall, it was a big night for internationally-born players as four took home awards.
