Jack Eichel's first goal of the preseason came just seconds into overtime, and helped lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night at Pegula Ice Arena.

Pominville opened the scoring with his first goal of the preseason. The veteran forward capitalized off of a pass by Jack Eichel while the Sabres were working with a delayed power play advantage. The goal came nearly halfway through the opening period. That was the only goal in the first, despite a combined 25 shots on goal between the two teams.

Several players made their preseason debut, including Victor Antipin. The defender took a penalty late in the first period, one of three committed by the Sabres in the first period. Chad Johnson also made his first appearance between the pipes for the blue and gold, and made nine saves in the opening stanza. Zach Bogosian and Nathan Beaulieu also made their 2017 preseason debut for Buffalo. It is the first game in a Sabre uniform for Beaulieu after being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens during the summer.

Zach Aston-Reese did not waste much time in the second period, scoring the game's equalizing goal. The forward's goal came forty-nine seconds into the period and was unassisted to tie the Sabres 1-1. Pominville netted his second goal of the night after a rebound opportunity in front of Antti Niemi. Both Eichel and Evander Kane assisted on the goal that made it 2-1 Sabres in the second period. Buffalo took another late period penalty, but were able to survive to the break without surrendering the game-tying goal to Pittsburgh.

Adam Wilcox replaced Johnson on goal for Buffalo. Johnson made 23 saves on 24 shots for the blue and gold. Casey DeSmith replaced Niemi in the third period for the Penguins as well.

Jay McClement beat Wilcox on a tipped shot to tie the score at 2-2 in the third period. It came as a power play goal on the seventh opportunity of the night for Pittsburgh. It would be followed up minutes later with another power play score for the Penguins. Olli Maatta was credited with the go-ahead goal for Pittsburgh. The first deficit of the night put Buffalo down for the firth time in the game, 3-2.

Matt Tennyson tied the game at 3-3 with less than three minutes to go in regulation. He scored after Seth Griffith helped setup the play. Griffith also played in last night's loss to Carolina. Buffalo had several scoring opportunities in the game's final minutes but could not get the game-winning goal in regulation.

Just twenty-five seconds into the game's extra period Eichel was able to beat DeSmith for the game-winning goal in the 3-on-3 format. The goal capped a three-point night for the third year forward who made his preseason debut for the blue and gold.
