The King has found a new home.

For the first time in his illustrious career, LeBron James will be playing his home games away from the confines of the NBA's Eastern Conference. Around 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening, ESPN broke the news that James had found a new suitor, and to many, it was not a surprise.

The Los Angeles Lakers won the sweepstakes by inking James to a four-year, $154 million dollar contract. Since James' decision to opt out of the final year of his deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers last week, it was believed that it was essentially a three-team race. The Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cavaliers (under a re-structured contract) were deemed as the most senseable fits for the 15-year veteran.

The 76ers threw all that they could at James in an effort to coax him towards the City of Brotherly Love. Despite the best efforts of their fanbase and popular centerman Joel Embiid on social media, they were left in the dust as James took his talents out west.

LeBron joins the likes of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma in Souther California. The Lakers also brought in a trio of supporting free agents, signing Rajon Rondo (New Orleans Pelicans), Lance Stephenson (Indiana Pacers) and JaVale McGee (Golden State Warriors) on respective one-year contracts.

James' signing boosted the Lakers' chances of winning a championship all the way up to second in the league at 7/2. These odds have Los Angeles tied with the Boston Celtics. Both teams only trail the Warriors (10/11) in early-season predictions.

The Lakers have not won an NBA Championship since 2010.
