The Buffalo Sabres played in their second consecutive shootout on Saturday afternoon, but, unlike Thursday against the Ottawa Senators, they were unable to emerge with a win. The Vegas Golden Knights dispatched the Sabres in five rounds on the strength of Erik Haula's game-winning shootout goal, which sealed the 2-1 victory at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

Fresh off of his call-up on Friday, Justin Bailey started the scoring for both sides with his early third period goal, but Vegas tied the game with 4:14 to play in regulation before the game got stretched past overtime and into the eventual shootout.

Go inside the locker room to hear from Justin Bailey, Benoit Pouliot, Robin Lehner and Phil Housley following the loss.

Justin Bailey:

On his goal: "It was a great play by Pouliot there. He made a great effort to win the race and make a pass and thankfully I was able to do the rest."

Control the controllables: "I played with speed and played physically. Those are things I can control. Making the move up here is sometimes tough, but having control of those helps the transition."

Benoit Pouliot:

On the effort: "We played a very good game against one of the best teams in the league right now. The ending stinks, but it was a good all-around effort."

Toe-to-toe with a great NHL squad: "We were on them and we kept it simple. We had success with that. I think we played better than them and I think we should have won this game."

Robin Lehner:

On Vegas' goofy game-tying goal: "[Scandella] did the right thing. There was a pretty clear look on the backside and I had to make a move to stick with him. He wasn't wrong. Just a lucky bounce."

Overtime effort progressing: "There's usually grade-A chances all over in overtime. I think we've played better in overtime as of late, but just not meant to be today."

Step at a time in the shootout: "It's no secret I was struggling in shootouts. but I got some confidence back after the Ottawa shootout win. Something to always continue to work at."

Phil Housley:

Playing more prideful: "You look at our lineup versus their lineup, I think we did a great job especially with so many new guys constantly stepping in."

Early first period lull: "We didn't have the greatest shot mentality early. It got better as the game went on. Based off how the game played out, I thought the first goal scored would play a huge role in determining a winner."

On the positioning, happenstance of VGK's game-tying tally: "It's unfortunate. We had good layers there... just unfortunate that it has to go off our body and into the net."
