The Buffalo Sabres fell 5-3 to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday at KeyBank Center after giving up a 3-2 lead in the third period.

Despite falling behind early in the game, Buffalo stormed back to take a 2-1 lead behind goals from Sam Reinhart and Tage Thompson in the first period. After Tampa Bay tied the game at 2-2, Marco Scandella gave Buffalo the lead early in the third before two penalties served as the catalyst for the Tampa Bay surge.

Both penalties resulted in their fourth and fifth goals of the night to put the Sabres away. Buffalo had a power play taken away from them after Jack Eichel went to the box for elbowing, where Steven Stamkos was able to put Tampa ahead on the ensuing 4-on-4. Lawrence Pilut then took a late holding penalty where Ryan Callahan put the final nail in the coffin with just over a minute to go in the game.

Linus Ullmark made 25 saves on 30 shots that went his way tonight, while the winning goaltender Louis Domingue made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Let's go inside the locker room and see what Jack Eichel, Reinhart, Scandella and Phil Housley had to say after the game:

Jack Eichel:

On the overall effort for the night: "I thought we worked hard, obviously we didn't get the outcome we wanted but there was a lot of good from us."

On what the team does now: "We just have to regroup and go to Edmonton, we have a few games on the road here before the break."

Sam Reinhart:

On Tampa Bay: "You can see the talent they have, if they get a chance they are going to capitalize."

About being outside of the playoff picture currently: "For sure there is frustration. There is no time to dwell on it, we are in the race and that is what we wanted at the beginning of the season. We have to step up to the challenge."

Marco Scandella:

On giving up the lead: "We were competing hard, but we made a couple of crucial mistakes late in the game and it cost us."

About playing Tampa close: "We are in these games, we have to find a way to get over the hump... We just made too many mistakes at the end."

Phil Housley:

On how the game got away: "We just made a big mistake to the wrong people. They can turn around and attack pretty quickly... It's unfortunate."

On turning the season around: "We just have to go back to work. It's going to take every shift, every period of a 60-minute game. If we play a 60-minute game like we're capable of, we'll get on the right side of things."
