From the Locker Room: Sabres-Maple Leafs

The Buffalo Sabres finished up their season series against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 5-2 loss on Monday at the Air Canada Centre.

The Leafs' potent home attack was too much for the Sabres to handle, as the likes of William Nylander and Auston Matthews netted a pair of goals each and added an assist.

A positive stat: with his second period tally, Buffalo forward Sam Reinhart set career-highs in both goals in a season (24) as well as points (48).

Go inside the locker room to hear from Jason Pominville, Reinhart, Chad Johnson and Phil Housley following the loss.

Jason Pominville:

On the start: "I thought our first period wasn't bad. They're the top team in first periods and I thought we came out hard. Then our second wasn't what we wanted it to be and we were chasing. They're too good to be chasing for an entire period."

Fuel the fire: "Our turnovers fed to their transition and allowed them to do what they do best."

Sam Reinhart:

Costly errors: "If you look at their roster, even if you make only three mistakes in a night it could result in three goals. That's the talent they possess and we fell victim to it."

If only: "Would've been nice to get a couple goals early, but we gave them too many looks and paid the price."

Chad Johnson:

On the opening 20: "It was a pretty even first period with each team getting looks. They made some better shots than us. Just that kind of game."

Matthews strikes twice: "He made a good shot and had plenty of time to grip it and rip it. He's got a really good shot, his whole line was pretty tenacious all night and made a ton of plays."

Phil Housley:

Losing the gameplan: "We didn't manage the puck very well after that point. It got out of our reach. We didn't make the best of our opportunities and once we got sloppy we fed their style of play."

On Sam's rejuvination: "On the powerplay he's very deadly in front of the net. He's getting pieces of pucks and is really good down low. His determination has led to his turnaround after his tough start."
