From the Locker Room: Sabres-Panthers

Hear from Phil Housley, Jeff Skinner, Lawrence Pilut, Jack Eichel and Linus Ullmark after the 3-2 OT loss

November 30, 2018 - 10:48 pm

The Buffalo Sabres have lost consecutive games for the first time since November 1, falling to the Florida Panthers 3-2 in overtime.

Buffalo got goals from Jeff Skinner and Sam Reinhart before being forced into overtime after the Panthers scored in the third period to tie it up. Aleksander Barkov won it in the extra frame for Florida, dropping Buffalo to 17-7-3 on the year.

Go inside the locker room to see what Jeff Skinner, Lawrence Pilut, Jack Eichel and Linus Ullmark had to say after the overtime loss:

Jeff Skinner:

On the Sabres being caught in their zone too often: "I thought Linus played great for us. It just seemed like we had a tough time getting into their end and sustaining a forecheck. I think we turned a couple pucks over too many, and it's a skilled group over there, you give them too many chances, they're going to hurt you."

"Maybe we just needed to be more simple, a little more clean through the neutral zone, that would have allowed us to spend more time in their end."

Lawrence Pilut:

On his NHL debut: "It felt alright, I think I grew into it more and more and I think I can still do better and it was the first game, an okay game."

"I was a little nervous before the puck drop and then I kind of settled down and just focused on playing hockey and having fun out there."

Jack Eichel:

On the play of Linus Ullmark in net: "We've got ultimate confidence when either of these guys go in the net. He steals a point for us tonight. [Hutton] has been so good all year and Linus the same. Can't say enough good things about both of our goaltenders, either one of them go in here, we've got ultimate confidence they're going to play a stellar game, which is what they've been doing."

Linus Ullmark:

On the tough goals that were allowed: "I always think I can do something on all the goals, I lost my seal on the second one and the third one I wasn't aware of where Barkov was."

Phil Housley:

On Ullmark's performance:  "That's one thing you feel a little bad about because he did play such a solid game, he really gave us an opportunity to win the game. I think there was 80 attempts to our maybe 40, that's uncharacteristic of us. But we've got to learn from this as we move forward.

On Pilut's NHL debut: "I really liked Lawrence stepping in. In this situation, I though he handled himself really well. He made some mistakes, that's going to be part of his development, we understand that. But, all in all, I liked the way he played on both ends of the ice. You see a lot of confidence in his game."
