The Buffalo Sabres stayed hot in Detroit on Saturday night, skating to their ninth-straight victoty with a 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings.

Jeff Skinner netted his 18th goal of the season just 3:37 into the game, giving the Sabres the early lead. Detroit's Dylan Larkin tied the game at 1-1 in the second period, but Tage Thompson put the Sabres back on top with a rocket of a one-timer midway through the third period. The Red Wings later tied the game 2-2 and ended up playing the Sabres all the way to a shootout.

Buffalo won the seven-round shootout 2-1, with Tage Thompson keeping the Sabres alive with a tying goal in the fifth round and Sam Reinhart winning it in the seventh round with a beautiful top-shelf back hand. Linus Ullmark had an outstanding night in goal, recording 35 saves on 37 shots faced; he also stopped 6-of-7 Detroit attempts in the shootout.

Time to go inside the locker room to see what Thompson, Ullmark, Jack Eichel and head coach Phil Housley had to say following Buffalo's victory:

Tage Thompson

On improvement this season: "It's pretty easy [to feel like I'm improving] with the way the team is playing. We're having great success and when that happens your individual success goes up as well, so I'm just focusing on helping the team in any way possible."

On one-timer goal & feed from Dahlin: "It was a perfect pass [from Dahlin] and I had gotten high-sticked probably ten seconds before that, so I was pretty mad and I kind of put all my weight into it. I was pretty happy when it went in."

Linus Ullmark

On stopping Larkin on a breakaway: "[I was thinking] Stop the puck mostly. Keep my patience on my feet, and take it from there."

On playing in close games: "Patience is key in this type of game. Every team is good in this league, they're going to have their pushes and we have to stay strong whenever they come forward. We've been able to limit chances aganist and not give up three, four or five goals unanswered. We're keeping our momentum through [opponent's rushes]."

Jack Eichel:

On Thompson's goal: "Thommer's got a bomb, and that was a great shot. It went back across the grain and under the bar, that's a goal-scorers goal. It was awesome to see him get rewarded, I think he's been playing great the last few nights."

On team's committment this year: "From where we've come from and the struggles we had the last few years, I just think everyone has really stepped up this year. We've committed to putting our best foot forward every day, trying to get better. It's a great feeling, obviously we have a lot to accomplish still."

Phil Housley

On Ullmark's performance: "It wasn't pretty. It was sometimes sloppy, but we found a way to win and I give a lot of credit to Linus. To make those huge breakaway saves tonight was great for him and his confidence."

On player's effort during this streak: "I have to give credit to our guys for playing six games in nine nights. It's been a grind and the guys continue to find energy and ways to win hockey games."
