The Buffalo Sabres used a big second period to down the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 on Saturday at KeyBank Center.

Conor Sheary got the Sabres on the board first early in the second period off a giveaway in the neutral zone by Justin Abdelkader. Casey Mittelstadt added a power play goal to put Buffalo up by a pair halfway through the period. Shortly after Dylan Larkin converted a power play wraparound chance to cut the lead in half, Kyle Okposo scored on the power play with under a minute to go in the second period to mold the 3-1 scoreline.

Linus Ullmark was impressive in the win, tallying 28 saves on 29 shots that came his way.

Buffalo will be back in action on Sunday when the team hosts the Winnipeg Jets for a 3 p.m. faceoff.

Let's go inside the locker room to see what Okposo, Mittelstadt, Ullmark and head coach Phil Housley had to say after the win:

Kyle Okposo:

Okposo: "I thought we did a good job in the defensive zone... definitely a better effort."

Okposo: "When your PP clicks it helps the team out a lot."

Casey Mittelstadt:

Mittelstadt: "You can't complain, it feels good to get one back off the crossbar earlier."

Mittelstadt: "There is always stuff you can clean up but it was a big improvement by us."

Linus Ullmark:

Ullmark: "We didn't give them anything, and when we did we recovered."

Ullmark: "A lot of credit goes to the D men and the forwards for taking away shots."

Phil Housley:

Housley: "When they did get to the interior, guys did tie them up."

Housley: "We talked about managing our game."
