McCarron and the Bills come back to beat the Bears 28-27

McCarron throws three touchdowns and runs for one, all in a second half comeback

August 30, 2018 - 9:24 pm

The NFL preseason came to an end for the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night with a win in comeback fashion against the Chicago Bears.

Quarterback A.J. McCarron led the Bills from down 27-3 in the fourth quarter to score 25 unanswered points and help his team to a 28-27 win at Soldier Field in Chicago.

It was a rough start for McCarron under center, who played the entire contest for the Bills as Nathan Peterman and Josh Allen were given the night off. McCarron threw two interceptions in the first half, including a pick-six returned by Bears cornerback Doran Grant on the second drive of the game. By the end of the third quarter, he had gone just 5-of-18 in the air for 39 yards and his two interceptions.

However, McCarron started the comeback early in the fourth quarter with a five-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 27-9.

After an interception from cornerback Breon Borders on the Bears' next drive, McCarron found wide receiver Robert Foster for a 24-yard touchdown pass to make the score 27-16 with 10:02 left to play.

The Bills cut into the Bears' lead more on their next offensive drive as McCarron finds the endzone again. This time, it was a six-yard pass to wide receiver Malachi Dupre.

The Buffalo defense came up with a big three-and-out stop before the two-minute warning, giving the offense a chance to take the lead late.

McCarron and the offense then marched down the field on a 12-play, 84-yard drive to complete the comeback with 13-seconds left to play. It was McCarron connecting with tight end Keith Towbridge on a six-yard pass to help capture the 28-27 win.
