Pittsford, NY (WGR) - Both A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman are listed as co-starters at quarterback on the Buffalo Bills’ first unofficial depth chart, released by the team earlier this week, but head coach Sean McDermott declined to say publicly which quarterback would be starting the team’s first preseason game Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.

“We’ve got a plan. We’ll talk about that as we move forward here,” McDermott said. “I believe in sharing [it> with the players first. So that’s what we’ll do. We’ll share it, we’ll talk about it. We’ve got a plan, like I said, we’ll continue to talk about it as we get into our game and we’ll go from there.”

McCarron took the first reps with the first-team offense Tuesday once the team took the practice field. McDermott said that was “part of the rotation.” Nathan Peterman was the first quarterback in on Monday. When asked if it’s possible both players could get some time with the first unit Thursday night, the head coach said, “yeah, it could be.”

Rookie Josh Allen has been primarily working with the third-team offense since late last week.

Meanwhile, the team’s newest player, wide receiver Corey Coleman, acquired in a trade late Sunday night from the Cleveland Browns, took the field for the first time in a Bills uniform wearing jersey No. 19.

Also for the first time this camp, the rains came down at St. John Fisher College. It began downpouring about half-way through the session, but the team stayed on the field and continued to work 11-on-11. Since it was the last practice of the week prior to a game, players didn’t wear shoulder pads or do any live hitting.

The Bills face the Panthers in the exhibition opener for both teams Thursday night at 7 p.m. at New Era Field in Orchard Park and can be heard on WGR.
