Francesco Molinari is your 2018 champion golfer of the year.

The 35-year-old Italian golfer shot an 8-under, 276 overall score to capture his first every major golf win at The Open championship at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland.

To secure the win, Molinari shot a 2-under, 69 score on Sunday, and went bogey-free through his final 37 holes of the tournament. Molinari also becomes the first Italian golfer to ever win a major championship.

Opening with 13 straight pars, Molinari's round on Sunday was the pillar of consistency. On a Sunday where the wind was howling, Molinari was the only player in the field who did not bogey a hole. A tremendous appraoch shot on the 18th hole all but assured Molinari the victory as he hit the ball to within a few feet of the hole. After nailing the birdie putt, a wave of joy came over the face of Molinari as he went to the clubhouse with a comfortable lead.

Aside from Molinari, a strong group of golfers tied for second place. Justin Rose, Rory Mcilroy, Kevin Kisner and Xander Schauffele all finished The Open with a score of 6-under par, while Tiger Woods and Kevin Chappell tied for sixth place with a 5-under score.

In addition to the $1.89 million dollar first prize, Molinari will get a haul of exemptions into future tournaments. The Italian is now granted access to The Open until he is 60 years old, a five-year PGA tour exemption, and a five-year exemption to the other three major championships.

The 148th Open Championship will take place at Royal Portrush in 2019, marking the first time The Open has returned to Northern Ireland in almost 70 years.

The next, and final major golf championship of the 2018 year will start August 9 at the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in Town and Country, Missouri.
