The Buffalo Sabres came back twice, but could not find a third comeback in them in a 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night at KeyBank Center.

Craig Smith's 21st goal of the season came nearly halfway through the opening period to give Nashville a 1-0 lead over the Sabres. P.K. Subban took the shot from the point that hit the shaft of Smith's stick before going into the net. The defenseman, along with Kyle Turris, were credited with the assists.

The blue and gold capitalized on a fortuitous bounce in the offensive zone to tie the score at 1-1 late in the first. A shot from the point hit Evan Rodrigues by the side of the net and went right onto the stick of Kyle Okposo to bury his 13th goal of the year. Rodrigues and Rasmus Ristolainen assisted on the score.

Subban recorded his second point of the game by giving Nashville their second lead of the night, 2-1, less than a minute into the second period. The goal came less than a minute into the frame as he was able to wind up and use a slap shot to beat Carter Hutton.

The Sabres failed to score on either of their power play chances in the second period. A goal was negated by a Ryan Johansen hooking minor early in the period, while Mattias Ekholm was called for a tripping penalty, in addition to being assessed an unsportsmanlike minor as well.

Jeff Skinner scored with less than five seconds remaining in the second period to tie the score 2-2 between Buffalo and Nashville. His 38th goal of the season came after the forward was able to take the puck off the back wall and score the game-tying goal.

Ryan Johansen broke the tie in Nashville's favor with his 13th goal of the season early in the third period. He was able to back hand the puck into the top of the net after a good bounce off the back wall to make it 3-2 Predators. Viktor Arvidsson and Roman Josi were given the assists on the goal.
