O'Reilly nominated for the Lady Bying Trophy

The award is for a combination of skill and gentlemanly play

Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly has been named a finalist for the Lady Byng Award. The Lady Byng goes to the player that best exhibits a combination of skill, sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct.

It was a tough season for Ryan O'Reilly mentally, as he described in his media session on locker room clean out day. On the ice, O'Reilly put up some good production with 61 points and setting the NHL record for faceoff wins in a season. O'Reilly took just one minor penalty all season, a matching minor with Detroit's Hernik Zetterberg. So, not one time all season did O'Reilly put the Sabres shorthanded.

O'Reilly already has the award in his trophy case. He won it in 2013-14 while with the Colorado Avalanche. The only other Sabre to win the Lady Byng was Gilbert Perreault in 1972-72.

The other nominees this year are Vegas Golden Knights forward William Karlsson and Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov. The winner will be announced at the 2018 NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 20th.
