The team already has a different look

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) - The Bills go into preseason game number two on Thursday with a totally different look. Sammy Watkins and Ron Darby are gone, while E.J. Gaines and Anquan Boldin are here.

Buffalo will also have a different number two quarterback in Nate Peterman. Peterman was much better than T.J. Yates against the Vikings and has earned a chance at the number two position. Peterman said, “I’m really excited. I’m just trying to get better everyday and trying to move forward and progress from Thursday. Hopefully I can do that and I’m looking forward to it.”

Many, many quarterback have looked good in preseason against third and fourth stringers and never amounted to anything. I think it needs to be pointed out that Peterman had some bad throws to go with the good ones. I did like how he recognized trouble and made what could've been a negative play into positive yardage.

Peterman worked with the second unit all week and feels he's getting a chemistry, “It’s been good. I’ve gotten to throw with them a little bit, but I think we’ve got to keep building the chemistry, building the timing with the double moves and things like that. Just got to keep working on it.”

Watkins is gone, and the receiver they got for Darby, Jordan Matthews, is injured. Peterman still sees talent at the wide receiver position, “I don’t think it’s too bad. I think we’ve got a lot of good guys out there that work hard every day and do a good job. We’re building it everyday and we’ve just got to keep working.”

Cordy Glenn is still fighting a foot injury which has put Seantrel Henderson at left tackle. Henderson had a very rough game against Minnesota and will start the season suspended. If Glenn can't go in game one against the Jets, rookie second round pick Dion Dawkins could get the call.

Dawkins has been backing up Jordan Mills at right tackle, but is more comfortable on the left side. He said he's getting used to it, “Yes, but as of right now, I’ve been doing a lot of right reps so my right is becoming my more natural side, but once I get a couple sets in, then it’ll come right back because like what I said, I’ve been playing left tackle for four-plus years so it’s basically just built inside of me.”

Being a first-year player, Dawkins will do anything to get on the field. He said, “Well, it’s a day-to-day thing with everybody in the league. One day you could be here and the next day you could be gone. For the next day, you could be playing tackle, for the next day, you could be playing guard. I’m just up for whatever they throw. I’m just going to catch it and run with it.”

During spring practice Dawkins got a lot of reps at left tackle. He said he's drawing on that experience, “That was extremely good because I was going up against Jerry every day and that’s kind of what brought me up to speed like real quick about what the NFL is about because Jerry is a great player, so I’ve been playing up against Jerry and then Shaq and then Eddie [Yarbrough] and then Dareus and Kyle and all those guys. I’ve just been repping, repping repping, repping, repping, repping and repping. It’s just an over-and-over thing.”

It will be interesting to see how Dawkins will be used in the final three weeks of preseason.
