Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - When it comes to the Sabres home opener, they’ll have something a little different this year. Boston will open the season for Buffalo on Oct. 4. It’s the first time the Bruins have been Buffalo’s home opener in 44 years.

Those were the days when Rene Robert had 100 points, Gil Perreault had 96 and Rick Martin had 95.

That season, the Sabres went all the way to the Stanley Cup Final under Floyd Smith before losing to Philadelphia.

Boston showed up with Bobby Orr (135 points), Phil Esposito (61 goals and 127 points) and Gillies Gilbert in goal.

Don Cherry led that Bruins team to a 40-26-14 record.

The National Hockey League will release the full schedule Thursday afternoon at 5:00.
