Report: Bills host pass rusher Ziggy Ansah on a visit

Ansah spent the last six seasons with the Detroit Lions

The Buffalo Bills are in the market for a pass rusher as the team reportedly hosted free agent defensive end Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah on Thursday at One Bills Drive.

Ansah, 29, was drafted by the Lions fifth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft out of BYU. He spent six seasons in Detroit, starting 73 games and totaling 48 sacks. Ansah earned a Pro Bowl appearance in 2015 when he compiled 14.5 sacks in that season.

Ansah started only two games in 2018, appearing in seven before being placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. He was still able to record four sacks in 2018 despite the early end to his season.

The New Orleans Saints also appear to be interested. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Ansah will visit New Orleans after his trip to Buffalo.

The Saints already spent on their defensive line on Thursday, signing defensive tackle Malcolm Brown to a three-year deal worth $15 million total. They should still have room to sign Ansah if he wants to go there as the Saints re-worked Drew Brees' contract to create $11 million in cap space.

A healthy Ansah would provide an immediate improvement to a Bills defensive line whose sack leaders were Jerry Hughes (7) and the now retired Kyle Williams (5). Both Hughes and Williams started all 16 games games in 2018.
