The Sabres traded the center back on July 1 to the St. Louis Blues

For three seasons, center Ryan O'Reilly was able to call Buffalo home. After he was traded to the St. Louis Blues on July 1, O'Reilly has released a farewell letter to Sabres fans and the team, thanking them for their support.

O'Reilly was traded on July 1st to St. Louis for forwards Tage Thompson, Vladimir Sobotka, and Patrik Berglund, as well as a conditional 2019 first round pick and a 2021 second round pick. The 2019 first round pick is a lottery-protected pick, which means that it will become a 2020 first round pick if the Blues win a top-three pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

O'Reilly put up 176 points in 224 games in three seasons with Buffalo, while averaging 21:19 minutes per-game for the Sabres. O'Reilly was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche during the 2015 NHL Draft along with forward Jamie McBain for defenseman Nikita Zadorov, forwards JT Compher and Mikhail Grigorenko, and the 31st overall pick in 2015 (which was then traded to the San Jose Sharks).
