Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - Zach Bogosian played the first shift of the third period on Tuesday and then left the game. Phil Housley said the hard luck defenseman will be re-evaluated later today and is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The head coach said the injury is not related to the hip surgery that ended Bogosian’s season last year.

Conor Sheary may be returning soon. Housley said he’s hoping the winger can rejoin practice on Thursday. Last week, Jason Botterill expressed optimism that Sheary would be ready for the start of the regular season.

The Sabres will have quite a few different players when they play their sixth preseason game in Pittsburgh tonight. The Penguins will have many of their stars while the Sabres will not be bringing Jack Eichel, Rasmus Dahlin, Sam Reinhart or Jeff Skinner.

Phil Housley only had three lines at the morning skate because some players participated in the long day in Clinton, New York on Tuesday. Alex Nylander, Casey Mittelstadt and Justin Bailey are all on the game day roster, but they got the morning off.

Jason Pominville is only playing in his second preseason game.

The other lines for Wednesday:

28 Girgensons - 17 Sobotka - 29 Pominville

20 Wilson - 22 Larsson - 13 Baptiste

41 Olofsson - 74 Asplund - 72 Thompson

82 Beaulieu - 27 Fedun

6 Scandella - 55 Ristolainen

24 Pilut - 5 Tennyson

Linus Ullmark will get the start in goal and will be backed up by Scott Wedgewood. So far this preseason, Ullmark is 1-1-0 with a 3.03 goals against and .904 save percentage.

The Sabres won their first two preseason games against Columbus and Pittsburgh, but have since lost two to Toronto and one to the Blue Jackets.

Tuesday’s game started fast for the blue and gold, but they started getting sloppy with turnovers and then started taking penalties which killed them.

Join Brian Koziol at 7:00 followed by Dan Dunleavy and Rob Ray with all the play-by-play action.

The Sabres have announced that they will have a Party in the Plaza before each of the first three home games. The parties will be held in Alumni Plaza starting with the home opener, Oct. 4 against Boston.
