Jeff Skinner scored two goals for the Buffalo Sabres and Rasmus Dahlin added two points, including his first goal of the preseason, in Friday's 5-4 win over the New York Islanders in Oshawa, Ontario. Carter Hutton turned aside 19 shots for the win in net. Robin Lehner, who got the start for the Islanders, made 11 saves and Thomas Greiss added seven saves in relief.

The Islanders got on the board first thanks to Josh Bailey, but Zemgus Girgensons tipped a Brendan Guhle shot past Lehner 58-seconds later to tie the score at 1-1.

The teams combined for six goals in the middle frame with four of them coming courtesy of the Sabres. Casey Nelson opened things up, giving the Sabres a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Dahlin let a wrist shot go from the point for the 3-1 Sabres advantage. An Anders Lee power play goal pulled New York back within one, but Jeff Skinner's second of the preseason, on a nice feed from Sam Reinhart, put Buffalo ahead 4-2. Skinner added another goal moments later, this time on the power play for the 5-2 lead.

New York made it close on goals by Ryan Pulock and another from Lee in the third period, but the rally fell short in the closing minute thanks to some key saves by Hutton.
