Victor Olofsson's second goal late in the third period sealed a 5-3 win for the Buffalo Sabres over the Toronto Maple Leafs at KeyBank Center on Saturday night. It was the second game of a home-and-home between the two rivals.

The opening 10 minutes were scoreless, but the Leafs made things interesting off a goal from John Tavares near the midway point of the first period. The Sabres answered right back with a goal of their own from Sam Reinhart, who scored on the rebound off a Colin Miller shot from the point. The Sabres kept the pressure on with Hudson Elynuick taking a slashing penalty late in the period, but the Sabres weren't able to do anything with the man advantage.

The second period brought more offense from each team. Victor Olofsson converted a one-timer on the power play just halfway past the second period off a nice cross-ice feed from Sabres captain Jack Eichel. However, the Leafs answered right back with 5:15 remaining in the period. Rasmus Dahlin dived to defend a pass from forwatd Pierre Engvall, but he was able to just squeeze it around the sprawling defender and deflect the puck off the back of Carter Hutton's skate. Jack Eichel took a penalty late in the period, but the Leafs failed to convert as the power play carried over into the third.

The third period saw a goaltender change for the Leafs as Michael Hutchinson saw more time against the Sabres in the weekend series. The two teams went about half a period without any scoring until Sam Reinhart threw a nice lob pass to Jimmy Vesey at center ice for a breakaway. He was able to put the puck off the cross bar and down to put the Sabres ahead, 3-2. Around two minutes later, after Jake Muzzin deposited Victor Olofsson into the Leafs bench, forward Trevor Moore turned the play back into the Buffalo zone and he was able to tie the score at 3-3.

Late in the period, Reinhart made another nice pass that resulted in a goal, this time to Olofsson, who potted his second goal of the game to put the Sabres ahead for good. Jack Eichel started the play with a nice defensive break up in behind the Toronto net.

The Leafs made the attempt to even the score in the dying moments of the game, but it was C.J. Smith who put the game on ice with an empty net goal with just 52-seconds remaining in regulation.
