Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - With three games in four nights, Phil Housley gave some players maintenance days on Friday. Off from practice were Rasmus Ristolainen, Zach Bogosian and Lawrence Pilut. Patrik Berglund didn’t practice as he’s still sick.

It’s not surprising that Bogosian is banged up with the type of game he’s been playing. He’s been physical and he blocks a lot of shots. Phil Housley admires the way No. 4 plays, “He looks like a man possessed out there. He was very physical, I know he got into a bit of a confrontation which caught him off guard a little bit, but he rose to the occasion and provided some intense physicality which it’s good to see the emotions getting high out there.”

There’s a chance Marco Scandella could return this weekend. Housley said, “Marco’s looking great, he had another good day of practice so we’ll talk to the trainers and evaluate that tomorrow.”

On Thursday, the Sabres did a good job of protecting a 2-1 lead without just sitting back and letting the Coyotes come to them. Nate Beaulieu felt the defense and the forwards had a good gap which allowed them to lock it down, “We really wanted a big push back from our forwards and when they’re coming back and reloading like they were last night, it makes our job so much easier.

“It allows us to stand up and make quick plays, so we were in sync and it starts with their work and then us getting it back up to them.”

The Sabres have played four good periods in a row and it’s allowed them to get on a two-game winning streak.

Buffalo only has a two-game road trip, but it won’t be easy with stops in Washington and Boston. The Sabres haven’t played the Caps yet this year, and they lost to the Bruins 4-0 on opening night.
