Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - Before the Sabres left for New Jersey on Saturday, they practiced at HarborCenter. Kyle Okposo didn’t practice as a precaution, but Phil Housley had great news that the winger did not suffer a concussion on Friday night against the Rangers. Okposo did make the trip.

Also making the trip were Linus Ullmark and Zach Bogosian, who were given maintenance days on Saturday.

Marco Scandella was left behind as he was being evaluated for an undisclosed injury. The Sabres say Scandella could join the team later in the trip, which also goes to Florida and Tampa.

The Sabres were soft defensively against the Rangers and it cost them six goals. Housley had a video session before practice and said, “We addressed it today, we had a good practice and the spirits were up. It was a time to reboot and refocus and get ready.

“We understand when we have our details in order, we’re a good hockey team and when we’re not, we get the results that we got last game.”

The Sabres only won three of the seven games during their homestand.

One question I get asked a lot is what is the Sabres' identity? Phil Housley thinks it’s when they have their end buttoned down, “It’s our work, reloads and checking detail. It’s pretty simple, when we do those three things well and on top of that manage the game, we’re a tough team to play against.”

Saturday’s lines:

Skinner - Eichel - Pominville

Rodrigues - Mittelstadt - Reinhart

Sheary - Larsson - Girgensons

Smith - Sobotka - Thompson

Pilut - Ristolainen

Dahlin - McCabe

Beaulieu - Hunwick
