With the preseason now over, the Buffalo Sabres will now look ahead to the 5 p.m. deadline on October 2 to cut the roster down to 23 players for the 2018-19 season.

On Saturday, the Sabres placed three players on waivers, forwards Justin Bailey and Nick Baptiste, and defenseman Matt Tennyson. It is an indication that, at some point, all three will be heading to the Rochester Americans.

On Sunday, all three players cleared waivers without being claimed by another club.

It is a disappointing outcome for Bailey and Baptiste, who were both once thought to be highly regarded prospects in the system.

The 23-year-old Bailey was highly talked about earlier this week by head coach Phil Housley for his play this preseason. Bailey has come in and played fast and tenacious through four games, however the fourth-year winger went pointless with four shots on goal and was a minus-2.

As for Baptiste, he was looking to hold down a spot on the roster, which he earned late in the 2017-18 season with his play as a bottom-six forward. The 23-year-old played in three games this preseason, registering an assist and eight shots on goal.

Tennyson was back on the ice with the Sabres for practice on Sunday with him filling in as the seventh/eighth defenseman as Zach Bogosian still sits out with a lower-body injury. The 28-year-old played in four games this preseason with no points, six shots on goal and a plus-2.
