Jeff Skinner and Jason Pominville each had two goals as the Buffalo Sabres steamrolled the Ottawa Senators 9-2 on Saturday afternoon at KeyBank Center.

Kyle Okposo opened the scoring in the first period just over five minutes in. The forward was able to settle down a bouncing puck as he skated along the right wing side in the offensive zone, and beat Craig Anderson with a slap shot from the faceoff dot. The game's opening goal was assisted by Casey Nelson and Vladimir Sobotka.

Nearly a minute and a half later, the blue and gold used a faceoff win to create the second goal of the game and extend the lead to 2-0. A rebound hit Skinner in front of the net and then in. Skinner's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Jack Eichel and Jason Pominville.

Pominville would get a goal of his own for his second point of the night minutes later, making it 3-0 Sabres in the first period. It was the veteran's seventh goal of the season, with Skinner and Eichel being credited with assists. Craig Anderson was replaced by Mike McKenna after allowing three goals on 10 shots.

The first penalty of the game went to Sobotka for holding. His teammates were able keep the Senators off the scoreboard, with 13-seconds of carryover power play time to begin the second period.

Buffalo scored back-to-back goals within seconds of one another in the middle stanza to balloon the lead to 5-0 over Ottawa. Skinner recorded his second goal of the game on the power play. Sam Reinhart used a nice pass below the goal line to create the goal, he and Casey Mittelstadt received the assists on the score. Zemgus Girgensons scored 13-seconds later, with Patrik Berglund and Johan Larsson being credited with the helpers.

The Senators trimmed the deficit to 5-1 in the second on Max McCormick's goal, but it was short-lived. Pominville's second goal of the game brought the lead back to five, 6-1. The onslaught would continue for Buffalo on Conor Sheary's goal to give the Sabres a 7-1 lead in the middle frame.

Patrik Berglund increased the lead to seven with a goal part way through the third period. It was the forward's second goal of the season for Buffalo, making it 8-1. Rasmus Ristolainen and Girgensons assisted on the goal. It came at even strength after Ryan Dzingel came out of the penalty box after serving a slashing minor penalty.

Mittelstadt scored his second goal of the season late in the third to extend Buffalo's lead to 9-1. The Senators would score a minute later to trim the deficit to 9-2. Cody Ceci was credited with the goal, his first of the year.

Rasmus Dahlin missed the final couple minutes of the second period, and was ruled out for the remainder of the game:

Sabres head coach Phil Housley said after the game that he would make the trip to New York City for Sunday's matchup with the New York Rangers.
