Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - As promised, the Sabres have made some roster moves.

Arttu Ruotsalainen got plenty of action in the preseason and showed he isn’t quite ready for the NHL, so he has been sent back to Finland to play for his club, Ilves in the Finnish Liiga. He could not go to the AHL unless his club gave permission, and the Sabres knew all along they wouldn’t.

C.J. Smith got three preseason games after a 28-goal campaign last year. He scored an empty net goal in the win over Toronto, but didn’t really show enough to warrant a roster spot, so he has been placed on waivers to go down. Goalie Andrew Hammond must also pass through waivers.

Others heading to Rochester camp on Monday are Andrew Oglevie, Jacob Bryson, Casey Fitzgerald, Brandon Hickey, Devante Stephens and Jonas Johansson.

Kyle Olson continues his quest to get a contract as he’s been invited to stay in Amerks camp. These players have AHL contracts and will be in Rochester: Kevin Porter, Sean Malone, Eric Cornel, Zach Redmond and Michael Hauser.

The Sabres still have 21 forwards, including Dylan Cozens, who was not sent back to juniors. Nine defensemen also remain in camp.

The Sabres have Sunday off and will be back at it on Monday.
