The Buffalo Sabres used a four-goal outburst in the first period to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 on Wednesday night at KeyBank Center. The win is Buffalo's seventh straight victory, which is the team's longest stretch of wins since the 2006-07 season.

Jeff Skinner scored his 15th goal of the season with less than four minutes gone in the opening stanza, giving Buffalo a 1-0 lead. Jason Pominville assisted on the game's first goal. Almost a minute and a half later, Tage Thompson scored his second goal in as many games, making it a 2-0 Sabres lead. Vladimir Sobotka and Kyle Okposo were credited with assists on the score.

Buffalo capitalized on their first power play chance of the game to extend the lead to 3-0 less than halfway through the first period. Evan Rodrigues followed up on a rebound chance at the top of the crease to make it a three-goal lead. It was Rodrigues' first goal of the season, with Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Dahlin assisting.

Johan Larsson scored with less than 10-seconds to go in the period to balloon the Buffalo lead to 4-0 before the end of the period. Rodrigues recorded his second point of the game with an assist, along with Rasmus Ristolainen. Larsson dropped the gloves moments later with Scott Laughton. Each player received fighting majors for their efforts.

Claude Giroux get Phildelphia on the scoresheet with his eighth goal of the season just over five minutes into the period, cutting the blue and gold's lead to 4-1. The Flyers captain was set up by Sean Courturier, who was credited with an assist along with Travis Konecny.

The lead was cut to 4-2 later in the period thanks to a Wayne Simmonds rebound chance in front of the net. Jordan Weal and Travis Sanheim received the helpers on Philadelphia's second goal of the night.

Buffalo killed off their first shorthanded chance of the night. It came after Ristolainen was penalized for interference.

The only goal of the third period was scored by Reinhart with an empty net, giving Buffalo a 5-2 lead. The score came with less than two minutes to go in regulation, with Calvin Pickard on the bench. Pickard took over in the second period for Alex Lyon.
