Marco Scandella's last-second overtime goal gave the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday. Scandella took the drop pass from Johan Larsson and found the back of the net with 0.2 seconds remaining in the extra frame, snapping a three-game losing skid for the Sabres.

Rasmus Ristolainen's second goal in three games gave the Sabres an early 1-0 lead. Ristolainen's point shot beat Jimmy Howard 3:39 into the game for the defenseman's sixth goal of the season. The Red Wings evened the score in the opening minutes of the 2nd period on Jonathan Ericsson's third of the year, but Evander Kane's power play tally put Buffalo back in front less than 10 minutes later. Kane carried the puck behind the Detroit net and tucked a wraparound goal by Howard's left pad.

The two teams combined for only four shots in the 3rd before Johan Larsson was hit with a tripping infraction with less than minutes remaining in regulation. Justin Abdelkader took advantage of the ensuing power play, swatting the puck into a wide-open net and tying the score 2-2.

Detroit had multiple opportunities to win the game in overtime, but came up empty each time. Tomas Tatar couldn't convert a breakaway chance and Andreas Athanasiou's 2-on-1 chance was foiled courtesy of a spectacular save by Lehner. Scandella's game winner came on Buffalo's fourth shot of OT, the team's 30th shot of the game. Howard finished with 27 stops while Lehner turned aside 35 in the win.
