Taylor: 'How things ended [in Buffalo] is motivation for this year'

The former Bills quarterback weighed in on his time in Buffalo prior to hosting the Bills in Week 2 of the preseason

It has been quite the offseason for former Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

After leading the Bills to the playoffs for the first time since the 1999 season, the team decided to move on from the veteran quarterback, trading him to the Cleveland Browns for a third round pick in March. Since then, Taylor has worked to prepare for the 2018 season in Cleveland, serving as the starter in front of first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Baker Mayfield.

On Friday, Taylor will get the first chance to play against his former team as the Browns host the Bills in Week 2 of the preseason.

Taylor was asked about his time with the Bills after practice on Tuesday, and had some positive things to say about Buffalo, and how he won the starting spot under center as a player that no one knew coming into Bills camp three years ago.

"When I walked into Buffalo, a lot of people didn't really know my name," Taylor said. "I was able to win the starting job and was able to break a 17-year playoff drought. There was a lot that was accomplished in those years. [I'm] thankful for those opportunities, and moreso glad for the opportunity I have here [in Cleveland]."

Taylor also had many fond memories during his time in Buffalo, most notably the flight home after the Bills had made the playoffs and broke the drought.

"For a team that hadn't been to the playoffs for 17 years, to come home after we beat Miami on New Year's... to see the fans out in the snow as the plane approached back in Buffalo, it was definitely special to see," Taylor said.

While Taylor had good things to say about Buffalo, he is motivated by how the Bills shipped him out this past offseason.

"I think each year has its own way of motivating itself, but definitely how things ended [in Buffalo] is definitely motivation for this year. Not necessarily this game, but this year," Taylor said.

Taylor and the Browns host the Bills for each team's second preseason game on Friday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, and can be heard on WGR Sports Radio 550.
