(WGR 550) - Team USA evened its record at 1-1 at the World Championship by dominating France 7-1.

Jack Eichel had one assist in the game, playing 13:22. Eichel won 13-of-18 faceoffs and had four of Team USA’s 42 shots.

The Americans had lost 4-1 to Slovakia with Eichel getting an assist in that game too.

Eichel centered a line with Johnny Gaudreau Calg. and Chris Kreider N.Y.R., and quite honestly I didn’t think there was any chemistry. Eichel and Gaudreau spent most of the game missing each other on passes and getting in each other’s way. I did think Eichel skated well and created some space for himself.

Eichel's assist came on another line when he won the draw and then tipped an Alec Martinez L.A. shot that Frank Vatrano Flor. swept in from the crease.

Kreider scored coming from the bench on a line change.

Team USA had three goals in the first period and Alex DeBrincat Chi. had two of them. You talk about a player that the Sabres missed out on, I look at him more than any other player.

DeBrincat was taken 39th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. I saw him play quite a few times in Erie when I went to watch Connor McDavid. He was the star of the game every time I went, and I thought for sure he would be taken in the first round. In three seasons with the Otters, the winger had 51, 51 and 65 goals. In two seasons with the Blackhawks, the 5’ 7" winger has had 28 and 41 goals and has played every single game.

Now it’s true, every team passed on him, but Buffalo took Alex Nylander eighth overall and traded up to get Rasmus Asplund 33rd overall. Huge mistake by Tim Murray, who was worried that DeBrincat was too small.

Colin White Ott. had two goals while Pat Kane Chi. had the other.

Thatcher Demko Van. had 23 saves in net.

Team USA plays Finland on Monday morning. Kaapo Kakko will likely be drafted first or second in this June’s Entry Draft. He has five goals in Finland’s wins over Canada and Slovakia.
