U.S. and Canada win World Championship exhibition matchups

Jack Eichel and Brandon Montour recorded points in their respective team's victories

The United States Men's National Team and Team Canada both took the ice for exhibition games Tuesday afternoon ahead of the start of the 2019 IIHF Men's World Championship. 

Three Buffalo Sabres are representing their countries in this year's tournament. Jack Eichel will take part in his third World Championship with Team USA, while Brandon Montour and Sam Reinhart will make their first and second apperances respectivley for Team Canada at the tournament. 

Eichel skated on a line with Clayton Keller and Patrick Kane in a 5-2 victory over Germany. The Sabres' captain picked up an assist on a Keller goal that tied the game at 2-2 seven minutes into the second period. The play was nicely set up, as Eichel got by the opposing center off the faceoff and fed Keller back-door for the easy goal. Jack Hughes, the presumed first overall pick in the upcoming 2019 NHL Draft, recorded an assist in the win as well. 

Team Canada also skated to a win in their exhibition game, defeating Austria 7-5. Montour recorded an assist on Canada's fifth tally of the game, a goal from Anthony Cirelli. Reinhart did not make it on to the scoresheet. 

The preliminary round will start on Friday, May 10 for both the U.S. and Canada. The tournament will start at 10 a.m. EDT on Friday with Canada taking on Finland. Team USA will open up against the tournament host Slovalkia at 2 p.m. EDT.

Both games will be televised on NHL Network.
