It was another tough week for the Buffalo Bills defense as they gave up 349 yards of total offense to the Los Angeles Chargers in the team's home opener on Sunday at New Era Field. In the first two weeks of the 2018 season, Buffalo has surrendered 718 yards of total offense to their opposing teams.

However, if there is one thing to take away from Sunday's game is that the defense woke up a bit, putting some good pressure on quarterback Philip Rivers and shutting down the Chargers' run game. In the final half of football, the defense gave the Buffalo offense a chance, giving up just three yards on the ground and 78 yards through the air.

Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams joined Mike Schopp and the Bulldog for his weekly Monday visit on WGR.

Williams conversed with the guys about the Bills' loss to the Chargers, as well as Vontae Davis, Taiwan Jones and the struggles that defensive players wrestle with in terms of penalties to quarterbacks in the National Football League.

Here is some of what he had to say:

Williams on yesterday's performance:

"It was a tale of two halves. There is some growth there, but we are obviously nowhere near where we need to be."

Williams on taking on Philip Rivers:

"I have played [Rivers] plenty of times. He will get you. You get that game to a two-score contest and sure, anything can happen. Our play was better, which is something to build off of."

Williams on Vontae Davis' decision to retire mid-game:

"I literally did not know about that until after the game. Typically, the only thing that travels better than good news, is bad news. I have been around Vontae quite a bit. Even with that being said, nothing in our meetings, training room or anything else led me to believe that was going to happen. Just when you think you have seen it all... I have not heard of something like this in the NFL. I am glad I did not find out until after the game because I would not have reacted well at half-time."

Williams on Josh Allen:

"It is our job to get him as many opportunities as possible. He will continue to get better with the more reps he gets."

Williams on Taiwan Jones:

"In my opinion, this is the exact opposite with the guy who walked out at half-time. That cat wanted to get right back out there."

Williams on roughing the passer penalties:

"I think there are so many gray areas involved in the calling of the penalty. It is hard to play and coach under those rules. For instance, [Green Bay Packers linebacker] Clay Matthews makes a good play for his team last night, but gets punished for whatever the reason."

Williams on Ryan Fitzpatrick:

"That guy is the best. He is having so much fun, and he is enjoying everything. He is one funny guy."
