The Winnipeg Jets successfully used their penalty kill to help secure a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday afternoon at KeyBank Center. Winnipeg scored shorthanded, while not allowing a power play goal against in the win.

Buffalo had two power play chances in the opening 20 minutes, but failed to score on either. Lawrence Pilut took a late minor penalty in the first for Buffalo, with a majority of the penalty carrying over to the second period.

Connor Hellebuyck had to be up to the task in the opening 20 minutes, Buffalo recording 14 shots with several quality chances. Carter Hutton stopped all 11 Winnipeg shots on goal as well.

Andrew Copp broke the scoreless tie while on the penalty kill just over three minutes into the middle frame. The forward was able to break out of his own zone after Rasmus Dahlin failed to keep the puck inside of the Winnipeg blue line. Copp had a partial breakaway and made it 1-0 Jets on his fifth goal of the season. Bryan Little received the lone assist on the shorthanded goal.

Buffalo's game-tying goal came just after their fourth power play of the game expired. Jack Eichel was able to record his 18th goal of the season, while Sam Reinhart provided a screen in front of the net. Dahlin and Jeff Skinner assisted on the even strength goal.

Blake Wheeler broke the tie with less than four minutes to go in regulation. The Jets captain was camped out in front of the net without any issue when he received a pass from Josh Morrissey to make it 2-1 Winnipeg. Morrissey and Mark Scheifele were credited with the assists on the go ahead goal for the visitors. Scheifele would add an empty net goal with just seconds remaining to secure the victory 3-1 over the Sabres.
