Despite there being a Winter Storm Watch in effect for Orchard Park on Friday, the United States and Canada will play their contest at New Era Field as scheduled, as first reported by the Associated Press.

Friday's game will take place at 3 p.m. despite the reports from the National Weather Service of the possibility for heavy lake effect snow for Southern Erie County. The N.W.S. says that total snow accumulations can total up to 10 to 20 inches in the most persistent bands of lake effect snow, with the heaviest of snow possible from Friday afternoon through Saturday.

The weather forecast for Orchard Park on Friday calls for cloudy skies with a 40-percent chances of snow showers in the afternoon. The high for the day will only be 18-degrees with winds coming from the south-southwest at five to 10 miles per-hour, and snow accumulations amounting to less than an inch.

At the time of puck drop, it is forecasted to be 17-degrees at New Era Field with a 40-percent chance of snow showers.

If the outdoor game had been canceled, the plan was to move the game back to KeyBank Center with faceoff some tie later that evening. Russia and Belarus will play the only other game on Friday in Buffalo at 12 p.m.

Canada is off from game action on Thursday, but will later practice at New Era Field. The United States will play their second game of the tournament on Thursday when they host Slovakia at KeyBank Center at 8 p.m.
